Dr. Walton receives PTK Bennett award
Posted: 5/8/2014 Dr. Jim Walton, Centralia College president, received the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented during a ceremony in late April in Orlando, Fla., during Phi Theta Kappa’s annual convention.

“It’s an honor to receive this award,” Walton said. “I’m proud of Centralia College, our PTK students, and the many achievements these students have made to the college and the community over the years. They each have a tremendous commitment to involvement in our college and community.”

Walton has been an advocate for and supporter of Phi Theta Kappa since he began at Centralia College 12 years ago. The Honor Society has a strong presence on the Centralia College campus and annually sends two students to the All-Washington Academic Team event.

The Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to college presidents/campus CEOs at two-year or senior institutions, who have been supportive of PTK, and are retiring from their careers. The award is named in honor of the late Dr. Michael Bennett, a longtime president of St. Petersburg College in Florida.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,285 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, a dozen other countries and U.S. territorial possessions. More than 2.5 million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 135,000 students inducted annually.
