Centralia College hosts MLK recognition event
Posted: 1/4/2012 Barry Scott, an expert on the life and words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will present a tribute to the slain civil rights leader on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, in Centralia College’s Corbet Theatre, on the college campus. The presentation begins at 7 p.m., and is offered without charge.

The public is encouraged to attend the event, which is sponsored by the Associated Students of Centralia Collge (ASCC).

Scott has created his tribute to Dr. King to teach others about one of America’s most violent and inspiring times and the man who helped to change the nation. Not only does Scott discuss Dr. King in his lecture and through open forum with his audience, he actually becomes Dr. King as he performs some of the most inspiring speeches this world has ever heard! Scott is so convincing in his portrayal of Dr. King that Coretta Scott King once complimented him on his realistic depiction of her late husband.

In 1994, Scott performed excerpts of King’s speeches for the Humanitarian Awards Ceremony honoring President Jimmy Carter. He also performed the “I Have a Dream” and “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speeches on the March On album benefiting the National Civil Rights Museum.

King was assassinated in 1968.

For more information on Scott’s presentation, contact the college's Student Programs office at: 360-736-9391, ext. 224.
