Shipwrecked on Centralia College Wickstrom stage
Posted: 11/3/2011

Shipwrecked, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies, is a classic example of good old-fashioned "yarn spinning," is a suitable stage play for all ages, and is playing at Centralia College.

Shipwrecked is "the story of a Victorian era gentleman whose colorful past as a seafaring wanderer springs to life like a theatrical pop-up book," according to New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood.

This kid-friendly tale is best suited for those who might be susceptible to the magic of bedtime stories. It follows the life of young Louis de Rougement, who also serves as the play’s narrator and takes its audience on a journey through one hair-raising incident after another, including meeting up with a man-eating octopus, years spent on a deserted island and an eventual return to London, where the title character is hailed as a national hero. This imaginative, theatrical tale will not soon be forgotten.

The play is directed by Brian Tyrrell, Centralia College dramatic arts professor.

Shipwrecked will run in the Wickstrom Studio Theatre, located in the south section of Washington Hall, Nov. 10-13 and 17-19.

Washington Hall is located at the corner of Washington Avenue and Walnut Street.

Tickets will be $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. Shows times: Thursdays at 7 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m.
