Foundation to host campaign “Milestone” reception

Science Center The Centralia College Foundation has set Thursday, June 3, for a reception to celebrate a milestone in the current capital campaign for college improvements. The celebration is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. on the observation deck, located on the third floor of the Science Center on the college campus.

The public as well as donors to the campaign are invited. Those attending will be able to get a look at the college’s greenhouse as well as the view from the observation deck.

The Capital Campaign was begun to support three major projects at Centralia College: the remodel of the college’s Health and Wellness Center, new science equipment for the new three-story Science Center, and the proposed TransAlta College Commons to be constructed at Washington Avenue and the Aadland Esplanade (Walnut St.). The state will have chipped in more than $75 million for the three capital projects.

The $3 million goal is the largest ever undertaken by the foundation, and the June reception celebrates hitting the $2.5 million milestone, the largest campaign total yet reached by the foundation’s corps of volunteers.

“We’ve recently been able to add new science equipment for student use in the Science Center,” said Julie Johnson, director of Donor and Alumni Relations. “The Health and Wellness Center is now fully operational, and now we can concentrate on the TransAlta College Commons. In all, these three projects have made and will make a huge difference in the college’s ability to train and support top-notch students.”

Steve Ward, Centralia College vice-president for Finance and Administration ––and the foundation’s executive director –– praised the community for its support in this largest-ever fundraiser. Ward said that people in the community have been extremely generous during this campaign. Our donors, he said, have provided support for programs and equipment beyond what the state will fund but that will provide a stronger educational experience for all Centralia College students.
