President, VPs pied at Athletics fundraiser

It was a fundraiser that also gave college faculty, students, and staff an opportunity to fill the president’s and four vice-presidents’ faces with cream pie.
Oh the joy for the five lucky winners who got to throw the pies. And what a wonderful opportunity for the president and the VPs to each take one for the team.
The event was an athletic department idea that started out with a modest goal of raising two, maybe three hundred dollars at best. Everyone on campus was invited to pitch in a buck or two to have their VP or the college president pied. College staff and students also paid for the privilege of pie-ing their executive of choice. At the last minute, an unknown benefactor chipped in enough funds to make it a five-way tie, giving each of the college’s executives the opportunity to relish in the moment.
The unanimous choice to take the first to the face was Steve Ward, vice president for Finance and Administration. Michael Grubiak, vice president for Students, quickly took his turn in the pillory, then John Martens, vice president for Instruction tasted the glory of a cream pie in the face. Vice President for Human Resources Chris Bailey, who was seen trying to sneak away on several occasions, was the last VP to be feted before Dr. Jim Walton, college president, then showed the others how to wear the cream. It was suggested that Walton might have been the financial benefactor who gave this team the opportunity to demonstrate college unity – an opportunity that did not invite dissent.
The frosting on the pie, to borrow a phrase, was that the athletes raised over $1400, funds that could be used to help the athletes get out of town.
